The Role of Books and Passages
ReadWorks provides over 1,000 non-fiction passages for grades 2-6 (see the list)

- Read-aloud books are crucial in teaching reading comprehension. It is the only way for students to acquire more sophisticated vocabulary, background knowledge, and textual understanding, especially for those students who cannot yet read with fluency.

Multiple skills and strategies are taught within each 5-6 novel unit.

Novel levels are provided using the Fountas and Pinnell and Lexile leveling systems, so that students can engage with texts at their reading level.
