These texts have been paired because they are both poems that address the experience of blacks in America in relation to their African origin.

This is wonderful but my students want to see the model answers that ReadWorks.org provide. I just can't find them anywhere. Any suggestions?

Thanks for posting. At this point in time, we do not provide the answer keys for the paired texts. As you know, we are committed to providing the highest quality, research-based content, and providing educators with more and more of it. In order to provide the most value to educators and their students, we felt it was more important to write more paired texts and the questions than writing the answers at this point in time. We wish we could do everything at once, but it will take some time. It is our intention to provide answers for the paired text questions, but we cannot give you a definitive time frame as to when this will happen.

Wheatley is not taught nearly enough; she is metrically gorgeous, her poems, both short and long, are so carefully constructed, and she provides a needed bridge to diverse literature in a period of American literature dominated by dense and difficult prose. Thanks for including this.

Reminds me of the song Amazing Grace."
