I use this poem in my classroom to teach "chunking." Students are given 2 lines each (or they are posted around the room) and they need to write a sentence describing what each section means. Then, when they have completed, they work together as a class to put the poem back together in order. Once that is complete they brainstorm in groups what the big meaning is for the speaker in the poem and how does that apply to them. (we all wear masks to hide true feelings sometimes) I then give them a blank mask to decorate with one or two emotions that they sometimes hide. Very creative things have come from this lesson!

shows contrast to what we know.and very poetic and subtle.

It's beautiful.

very poetic!
